Adding to his Robert Parker-praised cellar in Ribera del Duero, he commissioned a winery in Mendoza's Uco Valley, long before new neighbours Concha Y Toro realised its virtues. Local architects Eliana Bórmida and Mario Yanzón made use of gravity by installing ramps that feed harvests skywards (giving the place the look of a gigantic beetle).

2001 Rioja Gran Reserva, Bodegas Bagordi
A relatively young Bodega founded some sixty years ago. Bagordi is dedicated to organic viticulture. The word refers to a remote location in the valley of Baztán, one of the most beautiful districts in Navarre. It is originally a Basque name from "Bagoa", which means "the beech grove", in reference to the abundance of this majestic tree in the area.
