Heading up the D2 from Bordeaux, just short of the village of Pauillac, two imposing Châteaux straddle the road like a gateway to a land of fine wine. Pichon Comtesse de Lalande stands to your right, and on the left is Pichon Baron. The estate was bought by insurance giant, AXA, who refurbished and turned its fortunes around.
