2009 Château Le Doyenne, 1er Côtes de Bordeaux, En primeur, 12 bottle case
The eight hectares (19 acres) of vineyard are planted on slopes over-looking the Garonne, which has a major, steadying influence on their micro-climate. The estate was bought in 1994 by Marie-Dominique and Jean Watrin, who promptly set about restructuring the vineyards and rebuilding the winery. The wines are aged in oak (1/3rd new) for between 12 and 16 months. Although the vineyards are planted to 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc, the 2009 has around 85% Merlot

The phenomenal value of this junior Right Bank estate caught our eye in 2000 and again in 2009. Marie-Dominique Watrin has produced a wine of great elegance and smoothness, with ripe, red and plumy fruits and beautifully poised acidity. Planted to 70% Merlot with 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. 40% is now spending 12 months in new oak, and the balance in 1 and 2 year-old oak, which will enhance the fruit, and soften the signature tannins of 2010. Drinking from 2015 – 2020.

CHATEAU LOUDENNE - Medoc Cru Bourgeois Superieur 2007 75cl Bottle
A beautiful deep colour with shades of violet. A nice nose of fresh red fruits : raspberry and blackcurrant. The attack in mouth is plain, rich of very ripe fruit tannins dominated by blackcurrant jam. Good balance between acidity and tannins. This wine has fine woody scents well mixed with the fruit aromas which last in the finish leaving a liquorice flavour. Grape: 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 55% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 1% Malbec.
