The Clos de Caveau estate lies amid woodland below the shattered peaks of the Dentelles de Montmirail because it was isolated and thus perfect for organic cultivation. 40 year-old vines and severe sorting keep yields very low indeed.

2008 produced 30% less in terms of quantity, but the knock-on effect of this has been a greater concentration of aromas, underscored by excellent natural acidity. All will benefit from 18 months bottle age, the Clos du Fours a little longer. These are all exciting and delicious wines – of great individuality, and my favourite word – authenticity!

Vincent Roussely, in his early 30s, is conscious of the unique estate he inherited from his family. A one-piece vineyard with an exceptional terroir, an antique winery dug under the vineyard and a large collection of wine trade related antique trucks! This is a 22 hectare estate that Vincent took over from his father in 2000. In the intervening years he has worked hard to convert the vineyards to more info >>
This was the first time we had a one-to-one tutoured tasting at Las Cases, but it wasn't this that made us buy their Clos du Marquis. It was the fact that the wine was extraordinarily pretty, and I just can't wait to drink it in 15 years time. 2009 is a very well balanced year and is very lucky to be so. After a patchy start to the first half of the season with rain ever present and threatening, along came a blistering August that brought on the ripening of the grapes. If September had turned out hot and sunny we might have had another 2003 on our hands but cool cloudy weather reigned-in any excess. The result is a generously flavoured more info >>

Valençay is a tiny 130 hectare cru in the heart of the Loire where the vines are planted on the sand and flint slopes to the south of the Cher River. A blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, the wine was matured on it's lees to add depth of flavour and a very light natural spritz. Crisp, fresh and attractively complex with aromas of white fruits and flowers.
