2008 produced 30% less in terms of quantity, but the knock-on effect of this has been a greater concentration of aromas, underscored by excellent natural acidity. All will benefit from 18 months bottle age, the Clos du Fours a little longer. These are all exciting and delicious wines – of great individuality and authenticity!

2009 is a very well balanced year and is very lucky to be so. After a patchy start to the first half of the season with rain ever present and threatening, along came a blistering August that brought on the ripening of the grapes. If September had turned out hot and sunny we might have had another 2003 on our hands but cool cloudy weather reigned-in any excess. The result is a generously flavoured more info >>

Since 2009 Dominique Lafon has rented seven hectares of vines from the Château de Vire. The site of this vineyard is very well placed on the southern slopes behind. Most of the vines in this patch are at least 75 years old. 2009 is a very well balanced year and is very lucky to be so. The fruit for this comes from three small parcels of vines, the oldest being En La Barre which was planted between 1953 and '56, and is supplemented by wine from the young vines of Clos de la Barre, Genevrières, Goutte d’Or and Charmes.
Ancient vines of which 80% were planted in 1953 and the balance in 1972, by the Morey family. This three-quarters of an acre site produces pitifully low yields (20 – 35 hectolitres per hectare), but the health of the vines has improved dramatically since Dominique took this into biodynamic cultivation. From nine acres of the best-sited vines in Les Santenots, and one of the more important sites of Volnay. Oldest vines here are 60 years old – but the average is around 30. Black cherry, berry and currant aromas dominate, with very firm structure in its youth – but with excellent ageing potential. Dominique now makes some of the very best reds in the Côtes de Beaune.
