Oak-free and joyously juicy, a soft, cherry-scented southern Rhône blend of Grenache and Syrah. The bureaucrats previously struggled with the 'Costières de Nîmes' (between Provence and Montpellier) but finally attached it to the Rhône because the area is cut in half by an arm of the river's estuary. With their handful of successful properties, Jacqueline and Fanny Boyer have overcome more info >>

Meursault 'Clos de la Barre' 2001 Domaine des Comtes Lafon
Long an Adnams favourite, this a simple, classic Muscadet from a family-run domaine has crisp, minerally fruit flavours and a crunchy, apple-skin edge. Serve on ice alongside a platter of 'fruits de mer'.

Perfect with game. Guy Sarrazin's house, in southern Burgundy's Jambles, is hard to miss. It's pink - a beacon to wandering Suffolk wine merchants. We homed in 10 years ago, 300 years after the Sarrazins set up shop in verdant hillsides south of Givry. Guy's style arises from seriously restricted yields, resulting in pure, concentrated fruit.

All the appeal of the warm south, and the ripe raspberry character you look forward to in good Grenache. A useful quaffer for any time of the year.
A chunky, masculine style of Pinot Noir, reflecting the generosity of Burgundy's Pommard appellation. At its best with roasts and game.
A red wine from the Lorgeril family of Cabardès, grown in vineyards of neighbouring Minervois. Minervois has been described as a 'south-facing amphitheatre', making for a natural sun trap, soaking up the warmth of the Mediterranean.

Domaine de la Bongran is one of Adnams most favoured estates. Why? Because year after year the Thevenet family produce stunning wines - totally unique in style and incredibly generous in flavour. Each wine takes months, if not years, to fully ferment. The grapes are late-picked, and the winery philosophy is totally unhurried. The wine is ready when it wants to be - not when the winmakers dictate. Truley fantastic stuff.

Olivier Giroux, son of a Pouilly Fuisse domaine, set up his own domaine in the nearby village of Loche when his father showed no sign of moving on. This has been to our benefit as from the site he found he has consistently produced Chardonnays of exceptional concentration with clear mineral character.
We tasted our favourite southern Burgundy from Jean Thévenet's modest domaine in Mâcon-Clessé at the onset of its fermentation in Autumn 2006, and it is probably still bubbling gently as I write, such is the unhurried manner of his winemaking. Limited stock. Fresh subtle grassy Sauvignon nose. Good bright acidity and minerality. Lemon sherbet palate and a touch of green apple on the finish.
From the outstanding 2003 vintage this red wine is rich and ripe with lots of berry and black cherry aromas and flavours that make quite an entrance on the palate echoing anise and fruit on a solid finish. Drink now - 2012. This vintage wine is shipped in a silk lined wooden presentation box.
