Has a fine richness of dry honey flavours balanced by a mineral grip that lasts. Interesting and appetizing.
A riposte to flashy New World styles, this straightforward, honest red Burgundy displays classic smoky, autumnal aromas and soft red fruit flavours. Suits mushrooms and game. Henri Prudhon and son Gerard are hard-grafting journeymen (and mayors, in their turn) in the village of St-Aubin, to the west of glorified Chassagne. Of their 7 hectares of Pinot, the St-Aubin premier cru 'Les Frionnes' produces the fruitiest, earliest bottled reds, aged in oak mere months.
Jean-Claude du Roure, the current owner, took over the vineyard from his parents in 1985. Respecting the land and the environment, he runs his vineyard on the principles of well planned effort and sustainable cultivation of the vines, limiting the use of pesticides, allowing the growth of grass, and using bark to keep down the growth of weeds.

The main focus here is white wines, and they are bullish about the quality of these 08s, which are charged with ripe fruit and high natural acidity, ensuring freshness and vitality.

Team up this deeply-flavoured, white pepper-edged Beaujolais with roasted game birds or charcuterie and you're onto a winner. The richness and generosity of fruit -strawberries, raspberries -typifies wines from this family-run domaine, presided over by patriarch René Berrod. Not one to skimp on breakfast (or any other meal) this large, affable charatcer is as cheerful as any man whose children have all happily followed him into the family business.
Owned today by Jean-Claude Mas, this well established domaine has 25 hectares of vines in the Terrasses du Larzac area. Here in the foothills of the Montagne Noir, the soils are of limestone, clay and large pebbles, and are reminiscent of those of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. An intense shade of purplish red with ruby hints. The nose offers notes of mocha and liquorice amidst the dark berry fruits. The palate more info >>

Domaine des Maison Neuves are a quality-conscious grower that eschews the use of herbicides to give healthier vines. A deep coloured wine, showing great finesse and fruit intensity. Mourvedre, Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah from Domaines Ott's Romassan estate have been blended together to create this classic red. The dominant Mourvedre gives this wine its spicy, animal personality and a generous bouquet of blackcurrant and morello cherry. It is rich in tannin, warm, and highly balanced. Makes for remarkable quaffing with beef ribs, spicy dishes and cheese.
