Californian winemaker Mark Shannon fell in love with Puglia after working there briefly as a consultant. He returned with a view to creating the region's single best wine, choosing as his raw materials the premium fruit from 70-100 year-old Primitivo vines. In heat-steeped 2003, he succeeded admirably in capturing the power and concentration of the vintage. Densely-packed with vigorous, opulent black cherry and liquorice flavours, this is a blockbuster style for hearty dishes.
Polvanera - pure and elegant Primitivo from a small wine producer in the Murge Hills, Puglia. Unoaked, highly concentrated and wonderfully balanced. The Primitivo 'A Mano' is a blockbuster. Spicy, smoky, with liquorice notes and plenty of red berry fruit. The Scotto Old Vines Zinfandel is intense, with lively black cherry fruit and a hint of pepper thanks to a dash of Syrah.
Prima Mano has intense jammy plum and raspberry flavours, a black cherry scented nose, and a long, persistent sweet fruit finish with excellent purity. Modern in style, it nevertheless retains a very Italian identity, with a characteristic bitter twist on the finish. 100% Primitivo.
Deeply coloured and exuberant on the nose, with perfumes of ripe, red fruit, especially raspberries and a spicy, smoky edge from the oak ageing. On the palate it is youthful and full-bodied, with great balance between ripe, rounded fruit characters including blackberry and blueberry, sweet, toasty oak and ripe, full tannins. 100% Primitivo.

Filippo Cassano and various family members started their journey to create fantastic wines from the Primitivo grape in 2003. They based themselves in a remote region of Puglia, Gioia del Colle, and renovated an old farmhouse. The Polvanera (derived from the dark brown soils surrounding the farmhouse) is a powerfully structured wine. Concentrated damson jam fruit with silky yet explosive mouthful and a prolonged finish.

Primitivo is a grape indigenous to Italy and the eastern Mediterranean, now more commonly known as Zinfandel. This wine is made by over-ripening the grapes on the vine, then harvesting and fermenting them over a lengthy 20 days, then oak-ageing to create a rich style. Deep, dense ruby in colour, with a nose of warm prunes, dates and figs, with hints of sweet spice. Full and voluptuous, the mouth-feel is soft and plush, with toasty notes that linger on the finish. Try with venison, or pan-fried calves' liver.
Winner of the 'Best Chard in the world'. Despite that rather scarily lofty accolade, it is good!
Sweet and tasty Grappolato tomatoes organically grown and ripened under the Mediterranean sun and lightly roasted. Soft and juicy, an irresistible best-seller from the De Carol family in Puglia.Kitchen Cupboard

The region of Bierzo is situated in northwest Spain just inland from Galicia. History shows that winemaking in the area dates back as far as visiting Greeks and Phoenecians. La Mano refers to the work done by the harvesters who collect the Mencia grapes which are then destemmed and crushed before being put into large stainless steel tanks where the pulp is macerated for 48 hours in order to extract maximum aromas and colour. After fermentation the wine goes to mature in barrels of American oak for three months before bottling.
